If you’re wondering what do to with that extra space in the garage or den, why not turn the room into a giant 3D printer? The only solution is Hangprinter which can turn your any room into 3D Printer.

Swedish discoverer Torbjørn Ludvigsen has spent the last 3 years developing a brand new quite large-format 3D printer that may build furniture-sized objects in any area — amazingly simply and comparatively cheaply. Ludvigsen’s invention, the Hangprinter, employs a system of wires and computer-controlled pulleys anchored to the walls, floor, and ceiling. Once installed, the Hangprinter primarily uses the area itself as a casing.

What is Hangprinter ?

This project is part of a bigger initiative within the maker community called RepRap, that stands for Replicating fast Prototyper. The concept is to distribute 3D-printing technology to low- and medium-income communities by means of open-source style and self-replicating machines.

The Hangprinter is not the first large-format, caseless 3D-printing system, however it’s unique in many ways. For one issue, it’s cheap. All the hardware and firmware parts are often purchased for about $250. Also, the design is open source, that means that anyone will transfer the instructions and add enhancements — or incorporate upgrades designed by different makers. Finally, the Hangprinter is meant to self-replicate.

While the present prototype version of it is fully operational, there is lots of area for improvement, Ludvigsen said. In fact, improvement is another excuse why he is chosen to distribute the look for free of charge.

“In addition to avoiding self-destructing machines, open source machinery can also distribute wealth and power towards median families just like the one I grew up in,” Ludvigsen said.
“This may be a flexible manufacturing technique, therefore it’ll be helpful in a lot of different things that I cannot foresee,” he said. “Some of them might be terribly important/cool/useful. i would not need to stand in the way of vital, cool, and helpful things happening.”
