If you’re in the infosec, technology, or IT industries, then you should probably attend New York CyberWeek presented by Cyberscoop. You won’t want to miss this year’s opportunity to network with leaders and influencers in cybersecurity. If you’ve never been to Cyber Week, then rest assured that you have never attended a conference like this. It is such a great way to learn new things, meet new people, and just plain have a good time.
CyberWeek is bigger, more prominent, and draws more experts and presenters than any other cybersecurity influencers conference. It can be a bit overwhelming, which is why it is always a good plan to prepare ahead of time to avoid any preventable headaches. Everything from the start of your trip, during it, and even during your way back home should be planned out ahead of time.
Visiting the New York City/New Jersey area can also be a lot. A trip here means you will have a lot to see and do. This guide is intended to help you navigate your 2019 CyberWeek experience a little bit more smoothly.
1NYC Cyber Security Week
This year’s CyberWeek takes place in the city from September 16th to September 20th. The SXSW-style event is spread all across New York City and parts of New Jersey. While you are there, you will want to experience what the city has to offer.
With a budget of over $500B in cybersecurity influencers, more than 6,500 attendees, and over 150 Fortune 500 companies and agencies represented, CyberWeek will be massive. There are currently over 60 different community events scheduled.
You can network with and learn from the most influential thought leaders in the industry and get a heads up from leading cybersecurity companies on what the current landscape is today and what to expect tomorrow.
The schedule is incredibly packed right now. To get the most out of your trip, you will need to make an itinerary. You may have a great time and learn a lot if you just wing it, but you’re sure to look back and realize you missed a key session or person. Don’t make this mistake.
You don’t want to worry about your lodgings while you’re trying to take in so much. The Hyatt House Jersey City is an excellent option since it offers the upscale experience of Manhattan without having to stay in the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s fast and easy to get back and forth from Manhattan to Jersey City taking the PATH train.
Some other good options include the Westin Jersey City Newport, DoubleTree by Hilton in Jersey City, and Courtyard by Marriott Jersey City Newport.
3New Jersey Attractions
On the Jersey side of the Hudson, you’ll find the Liberty Science Center. Located in Liberty State Park, it’s a quick drive away. This is the perfect activity if you have any interest in space exploration and wildlife.
Not too far past the Science Center is the Liberty House, a trendy restaurant. From there, you have an unforgettable view of Manhattan Skyline. You can soak it in while you indulge in a hearty seafood or steak dinner.
4New York Attractions
There are many nearby attractions in Manhattan and New Jersey that include Wall Street, Times Square, and the Statue of Liberty. Even if the finance isn’t your forte, there are some fantastic bars and restaurants in the Financial District to check out. There is also a great photo-op in front of the famous Bull statue. Not far from Wall Street lies the One World Trade Center. It’s home to The Oculus, an upscale mall for the refined shopper. It even includes a pasta store and wine bar.
No trip to New York City would be complete without a visit to Times Square. This is an amazing entertainment district with many shops, restaurants, and theater options for you to enjoy. It can get busy here, so make sure you plan this stop accordingly.
While most of these attractions are within walking distance of each other, if you’re running out of steam, it’s easy to take the subway or taxi where you need to go. Don’t forget about ride-sharing apps like Uber or Lyft. Those services are everywhere in the city, so you won’t have to wait long to get picked up.
