Have a Moving Checklist printed out

With an endless list of tasks to do for your move, the first thing that you should do is to have a detailed Moving Checklist printed out. There are plenty of sample Moving Checklist that you can google for printout. With a checklist, you don’t have to rely upon your own memory when it comes to planning out the moving process.  Find a checklist that will help guide you through your move from eight weeks before, to the Moving Day and beyond.

Establish a moving budget.

Include the cost of hiring professional movers or truck, packing materials, and anything that you’ll require for the move and stick to the budget.

Declutter and donate.

Before you start packing, it is a good idea to go through all your things and decide which items go with you and which to be donated, sold, or binned. Every single item that goes into a box represents a dollar sign, thus you’ll need to spend some time to declutter your apartment before you start to pack.

Find free moving boxes

Moving can be very costly, some of which are completely unnecessary. One of these is buying moving boxes. Clothing and grocery stores are good places to find perfectly good boxes free of charge. You can start to collect boxes a month or two before the move.

Label all your boxes.

You may want to pack room by room and label the boxes by the room. For example Alan’s Room, Master Bedroom, Kitchen.  When you arrive at your new apartment, ask the movers to move the boxes to the respective rooms. Also, list down on the box the contents in each box.

Fill up pots with kitchen supplies.

Another packing hack is to put any obscure kitchen supplies, like spices or measuring cups, in your pots. This way you can unpack them all at once in your new kitchen.

Pack a moving day bag.

A moving day bag can make your life easier.  Pack up everything you would need for a weekend trip for everyone in the family. The bag should contain a change of clothes, toiletries, chargers, and some cleaning supplies. Keep this bag in your car so that it doesn’t get packed and lost in the back of the moving truck.  Make sure to include light snacks and bottled water too.

Pack clothes on hangers

Rather than removing your clothes from hangers and folding them, only to hang them back up at the new apartment, keep them on the hangers. Simply tie the hangers together and cover them with a trash bag or plastic wrap.

The Shiply website has a rating system that gives users the benefit of reading the reviews and feedback from previous customers.
